I'ma 3.5 player on a starter paddle. Is this a real upgrade?
Yes, and specifically in the soft game. Most starter paddles use a 14mm or thinner core built for pop, which is why resets and third-shot drops tend to sit up. Vector's 16mm polypropylene core lengthens dwell time so you can absorb pace and place the ball, and the T700 carbon face lets you actually apply topspin. If you're winning drives but losing at the kitchen line, that's the gap this closes.
16 mm or 14 mm, which should I be playing?
14mm rebounds faster and feels more explosive on drives and counters. 16mm holds the ball longer and gives you more control on dinks, drops and resets. Most players developing their third-shot drop and reset volley improve faster on 16mm. Vector is a 16mm paddle - it's a control-first build, and we'd rather tell you that up front than have you buy the wrong tool.
Is Vector thermoformed?
No. Vector is a cold-pressed T700 carbon face over a 16mm polypropylene honeycomb core.
Thermoformed paddles with foam-injected walls generally hit harder and cost two to three times as much. What you're getting here is the control profile - dwell time, a grippy carbon face and an elongated frame - at a price that makes sense for a second paddle.
Is 225g heavy?
It's a midweight 225g. Light enough to keep your hands quick in a firefight, heavy enough to stay stable when you're blocking pace rather than getting pushed around by it. If you're used to a paddle under 210g, expect it to feel slightly more planted for the first session.
What shape is it, and how does it play?
Elongated: 41.5cm long by 18.9cm wide. You get extra reach at the net and more leverage on drives. The trade-off with any elongated frame is a slightly narrower sweet spot than a wide-body, worth knowing if you're coming off a stock 40.6cm × 20.3cm starter paddle.
Can I hit a two-handed backhand with it?
The handle is 130mm, which is on the shorter side. Committed two-handers usually prefer 140mm+. If a two-handed backhand is a core part of your game, this may feel cramped, and that's exactly what the 14-day guarantee is for.
